So many patterns, so little time

After lunch with Jay I needed to run across the way to Petsmart to get kitty "stuff". Barnes and Noble is next door, and decided I needed a new book to read (well, not just "new" book I needed "a" book -- its been too long since I've read something that wasn't programming related, and just for the joy of it). I love reading a few pages or a few chapters at night before I fall asleep. It relaxes me, and it refocuses my mind. Michael recommended House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III. I bought it despite it being part of "Oprah's book club". I trust him.

I couldn't resist going to the magazine section and checking out the latest knitting magazines. I've finally got the confidence that I can handle just about any pattern out there... and Vogue Knitting magazine always has some doozies. I couldn't resist buying the latest copy. I don't know if I have the patience to attempt some of these intricate designs, but they really look amazing. A preview is available on their site, but it doesn't show my two favorite patterns:

Vogue Knitting Corset Spring/Summer 2006 pg 75 Vogue Knitting Skirt Spring/Summer 2006 pg 73

The pattern for the corset is 3 pages long and the "materials list" is pretty extensive: 3 skiens of "Fiesta Rayon Boucle" (at $20 a pop), 2 skiens of "Fiesta La Luz" ($25 each), the normal assortment of knitting needles and crochet hooks... and then the interesting stuff: thirty 10mm split rings, 8 yards of boning .... and a nail file. A nail file? I tried scanning the file, but I have no idea where that comes into play.

I love how intricate the designs are -- the detail on the skirt just looks amazing. And how cool would it be if *I* made that?? I'm inspired... Sam made this gorgeous knit dress, I wanna make something pretty too. There are just so many patterns I'd like to attempt... and I already have too many half-finished projects that I really should finish first. Damn Gemini tendencies. Maybe if I finish two I can start a new one....
